This new set of illustrations for the expansion of Dutch Resistance: Dare to Strike! focuses on the constant tension of the journey. In this phase, I explored the contrast between the Dutch landscape and the claustrophobic feeling of being hunted.
The three key scenes developed were:
The Forest Hideout: A subterranean shelter hidden beneath the woods, focusing on the lighting and the "lived-in" feeling of a secret refuge.
The Journey: A girl on a bicycle through muddy roads, with iconic windmills in the background—a symbol of the Dutch landscape under the weight of war.
The Pursuit: A high-tension scene in the canals under heavy rain. A couple flees while losing forged documents, pursued by a K9 unit and under the suspicious gaze of bystanders.
My Process: For each piece, I focused on historical accuracy and atmospheric storytelling. You can see the evolution from the initial thumbnails and sketches to the final render below.
